Defensive impact is a composite basketball statistic that is derived from 3 basic defensive individual statistics: blocks, steals, and defensive rebounds. For this statistic, blocks and steals are given 3 times the weight of a rebound to account for their impact on opposing teams.
Defensive impact is calculated with the following simple formula: [(Steals X 3) + (Blocks X 3) + Defensive Rebounds)/(Games played)]
